Welcome to Gideon Davorin’s Traveling Sideshow, where necromancy, magical visions, and pyrokinesis are more than just part of the act…

Mara has always longed for a normal life in a normal town where no one has the ability to levitate or predict the future. Instead, she roams from place to place, cleaning the tiger cage while her friends perform supernatural feats every night.

When the struggling sideshow is miraculously offered the money they need if they set up camp in Caudry, Louisiana, Mara meets local-boy Gabe…and a normal life has never been more appealing.

But before long, performers begin disappearing and bodes are found mauled by an invisible beast. Mara realizes that there’s a sinister presence lurking in the town with its sights set on getting rid of the sideshow freeks. In order to unravel the truth before the attacker kills everyone Mara holds dear, she has seven days to take control of a power she didn’t know she was capable of—one that could change her future forever.

Book Review ~ ‘Freek’s by Amanda Hocking ~ 4 Stars!

What an exciting, intriguing and spine-tingling novel! A travelling Carnival with paranormally talented members and acts? Count me in immediately!

We follow Mara, a young girl who has grown up as a member of Gideon’s sideshow, as she is pulled in different directions as she enters her final years as a teen. Desperate for an occasional escape from the sideshow, where the locals don’t view her as a freek, and she can be her own person, without the pressures of having to look after her clairvoyant mother and the sideshow family, she meets Gabe at a party, and suddenly she realises all that she has been missing out on. But even as their relationship deepens, darker forces attacking the sideshow mean that they aren’t safe, and no local person can be trusted.

I adored the carnival feel to the book, and loved getting to know the characters, the animals and seeing the feats of supernatural talent that the sideshow members could perform. Although I loved Gabe and Mara’s growing relationship, and their sweet scenes together, it was the times I spent with the sideshow cast and crew that I loved the most. I really connected to their world, their views of each other as family, and you could really get that sense of the members ‘Running off to join the circus’! I would have loved to have seen more of their acts, to experience more of the magic which we saw second-hand through Mara.

I loved how dark this story got. As a dark force hunts down the members of the Sideshow, I was sitting on the edge of my seat. What I really admired was how Mara wasn’t the girl to always save the day, but was hunted along with the others, and her powers are only discovered towards the end of the story, and not at the beginning like many ‘Chosen One’ stories.

An exciting story which packs a punch, Freeks is a definite must-read for fans of mystery, magic and family!

Release Day Blitz ~ ‘Paper Dolls’ by Hanna Peach.

Paper Dolls by Hanna Peach
Genre: New Adult, Romantic Suspense
Release Date: April 24th 2016.

My life comes down to this. Two faces. One choice.Salem is my twin sister. She loved me. She protected me. She forgave me, even after I failed her. I just got her back after searching for three long, lonely years.

Then there’s Clay. Sweet yet intense and nursing a dark past of his own, he’s all the redemption I don’t deserve. He wants to open me up and know the insides of my soul. I want to let him, but I’m scared he’ll run from what he finds.

But I can’t have them both.

My name is Aria. And today, I must choose. One of the two people I love has to die.

In moments like these, everything slowed. Salem always joked that it was life’s way of making sure you didn’t miss the turning points, the important bits. As if gravity sank heavier and heavier with the weight of the moment until the world was too heavy to turn and everyone held their breath.

It certainly felt like that now. My next action, my next word, would change all of our lives.

“Aria,” Clay’s deep voice reached my ears. “Whatever happens…I love you.” The usual assuredness and authority was gone. Instead, strain and hurt had crumpled up and shoved into his throat. Choose me. Save me. Love me.

Before him my life had felt like a stack of old movies; frames missing or out of order, muted crackling sound, flickering and shuttering away, unloved and unseen in an old unused cinema.

Then I found him. Or he found me.

He created a warm shield around me where I could be safe. He coaxed away all my layers and shed all my masks and his love soaked right into my skin, right into the very soul of me. He pulled out the fossil buried inside that had been my heart and breathed life into me.

How could I give up the man I loved? The one who loved me with a fierce and unwavering passion, the man who made me feel like I could defeat demons as long as he was by my side.

Winking in the threads of sunlight piercing through the solemn gray clouds, seed fluff twirled about me like swirling, dancing couples. Spinning around like Salem and I used to do in our backyard, hands clasped together tightly, turning round and round, eyes to the sky, our twin voices giggling and floating into the air like dandelions.

She had been my shield before Clay.

“I’m nothing without you, Aria,” Salem’s voice trembled, desperation leaking into the breaths between her words. Choose me. Need me. Love me.

How could I end her? I just got her back. For so long we shared almost everything, and she protected me. Her whole life had been about protecting me. Because she loved me that much.

How could I turn against her, toss her away like an old broken toy?

But I had to choose.

I could see us now, the three of us making a chain like when I was a kid, folding pieces of colored paper into rectangles, cutting out an arm, a leg, and half a head, and unfurling my new patterns in the light to reveal a line of paper dolls. Clay, Salem and I − we were all just paper dolls in a paper chain, me in the middle, each end pulling tighter and tighter until something had to tear.

Even now as I stare between Clay and Salem, trying to digest our impossible situation, Hope is still there, that terrible pixie, fluttering on my shoulder, whispering.

Maybe it doesn’t have to end this way?

Fuck you, Hope. Here’s the truth.

Nobody is coming.

No one will save us.

And someone isn’t going to make it out of this forest today.

“Choose,” my sister screamed. “It’s either him or me.”

My fingers tightened around my gun in a reflex. This was it. I either ended her. Or destroyed Clay.

I squeezed my eyelids shut for a moment, just for a moment of peace. Just for an instant I could shut out the inevitable, and in this blessed darkness I believed I could conceive a way that both could exist in my life. A way that I could choose Salem and Clay.

You can’t have both.

You tried.

Choose now.

But how?

What do you do when someone puts a gun to your head? Clay’s words came back to me, echoing as loud in my mind as if he had just spoken them. You refuse to bend. You push back. You find another way. You take that gun off him and put it back in his face. But you do not give in.

Find another way…

I knew what I had to do. A kind of peace settled on my skin, as delicate as gossamer, as light as silk.

I opened my eyes to a world of bright light until my vision adjusted. The torn and pained faces of the two people I loved came into focus. The only two people I’ve shared air with while we slept, the same two people I’d crawl into Hell to be with, and the only two people I would die for. I forced the ghost of a smile forward.

And turned the gun on myself.

Book Review ~ ‘Paper Dolls’ by Hanna Peach ~ 5 Stars!
Hanna Peach has done it again! I don’t know how she manages it, but with each new novel she releases she delivers a heartfelt, emotional, exciting and mind-blowing story which stays with me. With ‘Paper Dolls’ you’ll be racing through the pages, desperate to know what will happen to these characters whose lives are entwined together and who have pulled you in with them.

Aria was a great character; she intrigued me from the get-go, and after that shocking prologue (you’ll see what I mean) I just had to know more about her. I loved how her relationship with Clay developed, and how their behaviours almost reversed, with Aria starting out as quite reserved and as her feelings for Clay grew his behaviour became more reserved and secretive. And as her long-lost sister Salem returns into Aria’s life, dark pasts are revealed and suddenly Aria is just a player in her sister’s story.

Above all else, I connected to Aria, and she was my main priority. Her past was brutal, and my heart ached for her, so it was with this mindframe that I continued through the book. But boy was the ending a shocker. I mean, wow! Brilliantly done, Hanna!

This novel shines with a brilliant writing style, a heart-pounding plot that includes all the psychological elements I so love in fiction. I’m being very purposefully vague as this is a story you need to experience for yourself. The little tidbits of information we are fed thoughout all build up into one massive climax, and it is experiencing this build-up which will leave you wowed!

StrippedRaw Full

I’m a yes girl.  Get your mind out of the gutter; I’m not talking about sex.  I’m talking about saying yes to whatever comes my way in life.  So when I had the chance to move to Europe after college, I said, yes.  When I had the chance to open my own lingerie line, I said, yes.  And when my stepsister got diagnosed with cancer and needed me to come home and help her raise her daughter, I said, yes.  That’s me, Kenzie — the yes girl!  In every area of my life but one —Love.  Always the first to leave a relationship.  Will I be able to say yes to love — to Kane — to being happy?  Or will I simply come undone and be stripped raw?

Don’t let Kenzie fool you!  She’s a master at hiding behind a laugh and a smile.  Being an attorney, I prefer the facts.  This story isn’t as light and happy as my yes girl would have you believe.  No laugh can sugar coat what we are facing:  I’ve lost everything.  I know what it’s like to be left raw.  But sometimes that’s the only way to find love.  To strip yourself down, let the other person see all your shit, and hope they love you anyway.

“I’m the good girl, very responsible, girl-next-door type.”

Should I tell her I took the virginity of the girl next door?  Probably not.  “I think you’re more than that,” I say, taking a step closer to her.  That wasn’t a line.  I really mean it.  I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think so.

I inch even closer, but she looks confused — a little like she wants me to kiss her, a little like she wants me to screw her, but mostly like she doesn’t want me to do anything more.  I can’t blame her; we only met a few hours ago.  Deacon is wrong about the one night stand thing.  This woman isn’t looking for a hookup.  I’m not, either.  One night with her wouldn’t be enough.  So I take a step back, my fists clenched at my sides to redirect my energy.

“That was my first catalog,” Kenzie says.  “I plan on doing two a year.”  She reaches for a sketchbook on her work table.  “This is what I’m working on for the next line.  I’ll be photographing them pretty soon.  The line is inspired by men’s clothing, so pinstripes and. . . .”

She keeps talking about the different fabrics, colors, and textures she plans to use.  I have no idea what she is saying, but marvel over what I’m seeing — corsets and bustiers, vests with garter belts, bras, and G-strings.  I love that these ideas, these fantasies, came out of her mind.  She is so much more than she thinks, so much more than the girl next door.

Kenzie flips to another sketch, this one of a navy bra and panty set with stockings and heels.  That will look perfect on her — especially bent over my office desk.  My cock throbbing, I take a deep breath and try to focus on what Kenzie is saying.  My eyes search the catalog pages for anything to distract me.  “What’s this?”

“Cuffs,” she says, “like on a man’s dress shirt.  But these double as handcuffs.”

Okay, that’s it.  The arts-and-crafts show is officially driving me crazy.  My dick is rock hard now, and I can’t take it anymore.

Book Review ~ ‘Stripped Raw’ by Prescott Lane ~ 5 Stars!

How gorgeous this book is!

Prescott Lane always delivers with emotional, hard-hitting stories, but in ‘Stripped Raw’ she tears you apart and fixes you back together again with a story that is driven by some fantastic primary and secondary characters and woven together in the most beautiful way.

It’s hard to describe this story without giving away the plot, but it really is something you need to experience for yourself. Themes such as loss, love and strength all feature heavily and I learnt so much about myself from reading this book, which is something that I love when I encounter in fiction.

Kenzie was a fantastic main character. Strong, loyal, but scared of losing herself in love, she is the main driving force of this book and through her eyes I began to see the world in a new way. Her devotion to her sister and niece was heartwarming and seeing the strong bond the family unit shared brought tears to my eyes, particularly as her sister battles cancer.

Kane was one swoon-worthy hero for this story. Prescott Lane nailed down his character to perfection, and the chemistry that he and Kenzie shared was off the charts, which made for some wide-eyed moments and laughs throughout the chapters as they banter away. His strength, even after being badly hurt in the past was commendable and I witnessing how he and Kenzie worked together to heal each other and grow.

A fantastic, heart-felt novel. I can’t recommend it enough!

Wrapped in Lace by Prescott Lane
Genres: Romance, Contemporary
Release Date: 2nd November 2015

Wrapped in Lace.jpg

When I was a little boy, the best thing about the holiday season was unwrapping presents on Christmas morning — tearing off the paper and tossing it on the floor. Now that I’m a man, I like to unwrap slowly, deliberately, taking my time to savor what lies before me. I still like to throw the wrapping on the floor, but now I know the best gifts come wrapped in lace.

And unlike when I was a kid, I won’t get sick of this present by New Year’s. I’ll definitely be playing with this girl day after day after day.

After six years avoiding my hometown, the last thing I expected when I returned was a wannabe bad girl to unwrap my heart and rip open my soul. But that’s exactly what happened. Now if I can just get the hell out of my own way, maybe I’ll finally get the best gift of all — her!

Come get unwrapped by Drew this holiday.

“There was this guy.”

“OOH, a guy.”

“Shut up,” I said, laughing. “We flirted and drank all night, and he was so hot and sweet and. . . .”

“You are totally gushing over a boy. I can’t believe it.”

“I am not,” I protested, but I knew I was. “I don’t even know his name.”

“Why not?”

“I threw up before we got that far.”

Sabrina fell back on my bed laughing. “You did not.”

I hid my head back under my pillow. “I did.”

“Girl, you are hopeless,” she said, still laughing. “How hot was he?”

I came out from hiding. “Pretty damn hot.”

“As in you’d shave for him? That hot?”

“As in I’d wax for him.”

Sabrina started to fan herself, and I got up and headed to my bathroom, looking for some aspirin. “We’ve got to find this wax-worthy gentleman,” Sabrina called out.

Book Review ~ ‘Wrapped in Lace’ by Prescott Lane ~ 5 Stars!

A sweet and sexy story which is the perfect excuse to start a little festive reading, ‘Wrapped in Lace’ is swoon-worthily romantic and a great treat for this time of year as the cold nights roll in, and you want to curl up with a good book.

There is a second-chance feel to Piper and Drew’s romance, but it isn’t in the traditional, heart-breaking first love way, but in a natural progression of their being close friends as children, crushing on each other as teenagers, and then being separated by moves around the country, which makes their reunion all that more sweet. It’s not a reunion they’d both been dreaming of, they had their own lives, and seemed to little think of the other, but it was fun and spontaneous, perfectly complimenting their personalities.

Piper is a heroine that is easily relatable for women everywhere. She’s stuck in a rut with her love life, she’s still living in her home-town with a job that she enjoys, but which isn’t her passion. Drew seems to have made the most succesful life away from McAdamville, owner of a successful company, and not weighed down by family or relationships. I loved that what we see at face-value with Drew began to twist and turn throughout the book. We begin to see the pain that he has hidden for years, the impossible situation he is in with his family, and the loneliness and abandonment he carries deep inside, without even realising it himself until he steps back into his home-town.

This story has twists and turns, brilliantly developed secondary characters, real-life issues and of course, a pulse-pounding romance. Piper and Drew’s relationship was sweet, sassy and oh so romantic, and I adored their scenes together where they teased each other, and also just sat in silence. The added festive feel also got me excited for the idea of cold snow, thick coats and roaring fires.

Blog Tour + Review ~ ‘Sole Sister’ by Brooklyn James.

Sole Sister by Brooklyn James.
The Boots My Mother Gave Me #2
Genres: Romance, Contemporary.
Release Date: 31st July 2015.
It’s the book fans have been waiting for: Kat’s story is finally here! As the second instalment in the Boots My Mother Gave Me series shifts focus onto the younger of the LeBeau sisters, readers are sure to find themselves once again enthralled and moved by Brooklyn James and her wonderful storytelling.

The second book in The Boots My Mother Gave Me series, Sole Sister picks up several years later, continuing the story of Harley LeBeau and her rebellious sister Katrina ‘Kat’ LeBeau.
Relocating to Nashville to be closer to Harley and Miah, Kat aspires to launch her Sole Sister fashion line. A gutsy and impromptu plan suddenly lands her on the cover of The Ville Spill—the local celebrity gossip rag—alongside country music’s latest heartthrob, giving Sole Sister the push it needs. But Kat quickly learns that not all press is good press.
Years removed from an abusive childhood and teenage pregnancy, the past that Kat never talks about continues to seep into her life and relationships. Still struggling with the images of finding her father after his suicide, Kat forges ahead, vowing to avoid past mistakes. To focus on her career and responsibilities as a single mother, she swears off the disappointments of love. The first man she ever loved, her father, broke her heart. The first boy she ever fell in love with, her daughter’s father, broke her heart.
What Kat didn’t plan on was Nashville SWAT Officer Connor Reese. She and Connor have more pulling them together than keeping them apart. Kat finds herself in familiar territory when her plan to steer clear of heartache is derailed after spending a night in his arms. Will facing her past help to secure her future? Will Connor offer her a second chance at life and love? Or will her heart break yet again?
Staying true to its predecessor, Sole Sister explores the dynamics of strength in sisterhood, the ongoing conflict and unconditional love between mother and daughter, and the courage to become more than one’s past.

Book Review ~ ‘Sole Sister’ by Brooklyn James ~ 5 Stars!
How long I have waited for this book, and how worth the wait it was! Harley’s story in ‘The Boots My Mother Gave Me’ was one of the most intense and incredible journeys I have ever had the pleasure of reading, and I became so attached to the LeBeau girls and their loves and losses, that the chance to see Kat’s life after all the pain inflicted on her, was something very important to me.
From the word go, ‘Sole Sister’ grabbed me into the world of Kat and Harley LeBeau and I felt like I’d never left! Kat’s journey into the fashion design business, and how Harley’s fame as a songwriter catapults Kat’s name into the media, was great fun. The loving, easy-going, yet still definitely sibling-like relationship between the two was as special in this book as in its predecessor!
Connor was the perfect hero to Kat’s heroine, and I adored their relationship. The time jump at the beginning of the book made me all the more eager to see the two get together as sparks flew from the pages whenever they came across each other. The way that Brooklyn James identified the challenges of single parents dating whilst trying to keep their children’s happiness as a priority was perfectly done, and I really felt the strength of a familial bond, not by blood, but by shared love and affection.
The subject of Kat’s past-abuse, from both her father, and ex-boyfriend are very much key issues in this book, and it made for some very emotional reading to see how desperately Kat wants to save her daughter from being abused as she was. As with in ‘Boots’, in ‘Sole Sister’, this issue is detailed with a perfect balance of sad reality, and sensitivity.
With the added bonus of cameos (and even a whole scene to themselves!) of Harley and Miah with their family, ‘Sole Sister’ was everything I hoped it would be, and it was SO worth the wait!
Thank you Brooklyn James!

Tour Stop + Review ~ ‘Quiet Angel’ by Prescott Lane.

Quiet Angel by Prescott Lane.
Genres: New Adult, Romance, Spiritual

Image 1

We all have that someone we can’t forget, the summer it all began, and the sleepless nights wondering what went wrong.

For Gage Montgomery, that someone is Layla Baxter. When he was 18, he took one look at the chocolate-haired bookworm with porcelain skin and knew his life would never be the same. But it all came crashing down when Layla suddenly and mysteriously disappeared from St. Simons Island — leaving him with nothing but her angel wing pendent around his neck. For 12 long years, Gage couldn’t shake what happened, if he’s the one to blame, wondering where Layla might be. When their paths finally cross, he’s determined to get the answers he’s spent his life searching for — and to get the girl, too. Quiet Angel is a story of hope, survival, and lost love made new again.

“I missed you, too, but you were never far.” Gage touched his shirt with the wings inside. “You were always there.”

Book Review ~ ‘Quiet Angel’ by Prescott Lane ~ 5 Stars!

What to say about ‘Quiet Angel’? Well, I’ll start by saying that I adored ‘Perfectly Broken’ by Prescott Lane, and so had high hopes for this one of hers as well. I felt so connected with her writing style that I just had to read more. But ‘Quiet Angel’ was so much more than I imagined, and just so beautifully created that I find myself at loss to describe just how much it touched me as a reader.

The characters were so relatable, and because of this, their shared heartbreak over their separation and their continued love and desire for each other, even after their time apart, felt so natural to read. I loved seeing how they had to fight for their relationship to start again, and I felt my heart ache as I saw just how broken Gage was, and how he felt the need to push Layla away to save himself from the pain of possibly losing her again. Having witnessed their Summer meeting and beautiful childhood sweetheart stage, I felt more clued in to them as a couple and couldn’t wait to see how the dynamic may have changed as they became adults.

This story raises some real issues that I felt were dealt with with real tenderness and understanding. Prescott Lane did a fantastic job at describing Layla’s emotional state as she tries to overcome her past abuse, and her mixed feelings when confronted with the information that her abuser is close to death. I really felt Layla’s strength as an individual as well as her important role in her and Gage’s relationship.

The inclusion of the ‘angel’ storyline was really beautifully portrayed. In something that could have easily been mistakenly portrayed in a cliche way, Prescott Lane instead made the storyline with Layla’s angels something that felt natural to read. I never once felt that Layla was just being fanciful, and instead began to believe in her angels the way she did. It shows the strengths of the author that she was able to make the story realistic, believable, and not overly spiritual or at all fantastical.

A beautiful novel by Prescott Lane and I can’t wait to see where she takes us next!

Being that person, that man, is how I define myself, how I allow the

rest of the world to define me as well. And now, with a terrible loss

shredding me inside out and someone trying to destroy my family to

punish me, control is more important than ever. It is everything. It is

what I need. It is all I need. Or maybe I just need…her.

i belong to you lrj 3

At nine o’clock, Jacob is at my door in a black suit and a trench coat. He announces, “It’s snowing like a forest fire outside.”

I arch a brow at the contradictory statement that somehow makes sense. Taking my Crombie from the entryway closet, I step into the hallway, letting the door slam shut as I start walking. Ready to get to the hospital and see my parents. Even more ready to take action than I was last night. I’m done with sitting back, waiting, wanting, burning to death from my own lack of control.

The elevator opens and Jacob and I step inside. “Anything I need to know about this morning, Bossman?” he asks, using the nickname the Allure staff back in San Francisco often call me.

“I want one of your men shadowing Crystal around the clock.”

“Suspicion or protection?”

“Protection. She’s too close to my family and business to assume she won’t become a target.”

“Starting when?”

“Today. And it’s not enough for you to just be on alert for Ava. Find her and whoever’s helping her, before she finds us.”

His jaw is set hard. “We’re working on it.”

My eyebrow goes up. “No denial that she’s working with someone? I thought you were programmed to repeat that police rubbish?”

“More like, told not to encourage you to rip anyone’s throat out in the name of vengeance.”

“But you’re telling me that you think there’s more to Ava’s disappearance? Despite that order from your boss?”

“Yes, I do. And they do.”

“About damn time you grew some balls.”

“I assure you, Mr. Compton, I have balls the size of Texas when I need them. I can also promise you that, despite downplaying it to you, Walker Security is working every angle that could represent danger to you or your family, or even your reputation. They aren’t ignoring any possibility where Ava is concerned, or taking anything for granted where safety is concerned. They’re damned good—which is why I joined them.”

The elevator doors ding open and we step out, then head toward the lobby doors. “Do you have any new information you should share?”

“Nothing on Ava, Ryan, or Ricco that helps us at all.”

“Would you tell me if you did?”

“Not if I could rip their throats out for you and call it justice, to spare you the aftermath.”

“I’m not sure what to make of that answer.”

His stoic expression doesn’t change. “I do that to people.”

Book Review ~ ‘I Belong to You’ by Lisa Renee Jones ~ 5 Stars!

The chance to get inside Mark Compton’s head was something I was very excited about. Whilst I loved Sara and Chris’ story, the beautiful development of their relationship and growing trust for each other, I always wondered about Mark’s story and how it all entwined with theirs.

From the start I knew that Mark’s story was going to be a challenge. I was so excited to get into his head, and loved finally getting to see the man that he hides behind the face of ‘The Master’. The glimpses of a loving human that Sara saw in the previous books was something that had me dying to understand him more.

Mark Compton is just one of those characters that draws you in. From the first line in his narrative I began to understand him, and Lisa Renee Jones has done such a fantastic job in creating such a well rounded character, and one who has all the light and dark shades that make up a troubled but desperate young man. I loved seeing the connection he had with his family in this book, and particularly the devotion he had towards his mother. Seeing how his parents helped him understand his feelings towards Crystal was wonderful to read, and I really adored the family scenes.

Crystal was a brilliant heroine for this story. Strong, sassy and stubborn she is one of those brilliant women who can be hard and stern when necessary but also capable of giving so much love and support, something that I really admired in her, especially considering how Mark had treated her prior to and at the beginning of this book. Her need to help him, but also not push him about his past made Mark’s growing acceptance of his feelings for her, and his desire to tell her about his past all that more beautiful.

The suspense and mystery that was so perfectly pitched in the first books in this series is brilliantly continued in ‘I Belong to You’. I loved the twists and turns that Lisa Renee Jones made in Rebecca’s murder case, ones that had me on the edge of my seat in suspense! I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll just say ‘You Must Keep Reading!’.

Crystal and Mark’s story is one of finding your true self during the hardest of times, and I laughed and cried as I followed the start of their journey.
