About Me

Hi there and welcome to my blog, OldVictorianQuill.

My name is Sorcha O’Dowd, and I’m a writer, bookseller and book-blogger, who was born into the wrong century.  I’m currently hard at work on a number of projects; an historical romance novel entitled In That Field of Poppies, which was conjured up in the recesses of my mind during NaNoWriMo 2012, and a collection of fairy tale retellings.

In my down-time I am an avid reader. I adore delving into the nitty gritty of a book, a habit that developed many years ago from my time as a Psychology Undergraduate and from my MA in Creative Writing.  I aim to write constructive and in-depth reviews that really get to the heart of a story.

I also have a fondness for writing a little bit of character driven fanfiction, mostly focusing on introspective and reflective pieces that are inspired from less well-known characters from my favourite fiction series.

As well as working as an expert bookseller at Waterstones, I am a cat mum to Captain Jack, who demands affection, tickles and needs constant supervision due to his mischevious nature.

I do still take Review requests, however due to a hectic work schedule, and being a sufferer of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME), I cannot give assurance of a quick read and review, but will do my best to have your book read and reviewed as soon as I am able.

I’ve looked at literally dozens (65 and counting) of book blogs over the last few days to send Review Requests to. And this blog is far and away the most aesthetically powerful sites. The background, foreground, sidebar, the lack of clutter, the way everything stands out so crisp and appealing — it’s the best I’ve seen, period.

I hope that Loncon3 has inspired you beyond belief to venture forth and continue your writing.

I must confess that I was more focused on seeing your picture than your writings. Surprizingly, you look a classical Victorian era lady. Is it just a coincidence or what that your id also features “oldvictorian”. Nice to see thine blog. Thou shalt riseth above a lot!
